July points table

As announced last month, I have started a new monthly points competition in addition to the ongoing overall leader board. The winner for June was Rachel (who is about to start a series on why Christians ought to oppose nuclear power) - ten bonus points. Five to second-place Anthony (who still dominates the overall table); three to Ali, and one each to Mike Wells and Peter J in equal fourth. July's competition looks ended up like this:

58: Jonathan
47: Matthew Moffitt
37: Andrew
27: JRS
22: Martin Kemp
21: Anthony
15: Chris, Steve
14: Drew, Linden, Peter J
8: Michael Jensen
7: Zeekstar
5: Andrew Paterson, Mr Tim
3: Cecily, Honoria, John P., Rachel
For the points-hunters, there are currently at least 270 points on offer (or there were when I first posted this...).
Eight points for the first to predict correctly the ultimate winner of the July points table. This is getting a little self-referential, isn't it? Jessica has also just pointed out that it could result in a Catch-22. Bonus points if this happens.
Five points for explaining why Jessica and I have framed a red square on our main wall.

Can we award you points for developing such a fascinating blogging exercise?

I would like to formally announce in this post that I will be topping this months points table.

oh no pete i will have to inform the devoted public that in fact i (winner of any points of a novelty value) will be topping this months points table. Now Byron away with your intellectual churchill questions - I will never win at this rate - bring back novelty points I say.

ps I'm offering bonus points of monatary value for someone to write my series for me. full credit given.

Hmmm, maybe I should have increased the complexity by prohibiting self-nomination... Oh, well - too late now. You can keep nominating potential winners until the end of the month (one nominee per person), but only the first person to nominate the correct answer will get the points.

I would have thought someone would have nominated Matt Moffitt for this month by now - he's really building quite a lead.

I was just about to nominate Matt when I read that last comment. Unless Byron's trying to get the points himself, I guess it's not too late.

I tried nominating my self last night, but it looks as though my parents computer didn't allow me to do it.

byron smith said...

Yep, looks like Jonathan gets to nominate Matt. Matt, you can still nominate someone else.

Red Square on the wall? You must be closet commies...

No, my guess is that it's a square of fabric connected to your wedding. But my memory isn't good enough to confirm that.

I nominate Jonathan, seeing as nobody else wants to.

byron smith said...

No - not (quite) commies.

But you've snuck in at the 11th hour and grabbed Jonathan as front-runner. Unfortunately, you weren't close enough to him to turn this into a catch-22.

byron smith said...

Oh, it also had nothing to do with our wedding.

Matthew Moffitt said...

Are they connected to somebody else's wedding?

byron smith said...

No. Remember, I'm asking about the red square (rectangle, actually), not the flowers.

I'm surprised someone hasn't got this sooner. Just goes to show that few of my friends and family who regularly come over read the blog (or at least, few of them bother about points).

I meant the red picture.

Is it your favourite colour?

Matthew Moffitt said...

Does my earlier comment countas a guess or a probe for a hint?

byron smith said...

Hmmm, a bit of both, but I think it was more probe. If you now know the answer, guess away (or even if you don't).

Matthew Moffitt said...

It is a mirror, reflecting the opposite wall, which happens to be red.

byron smith said...

I see you've been doing some reflecting yourself - or some 'research'...
In either case, five points. It's amazing how many visitors to our house (sometimes people who have come a number of times before) sit down on one particular couch (from which the pic was taken) and say something along the lines of "So, you've just framed a bit of red canvas there... I don't get it." I always tell them, "it looks better from close up", at which point they stand up and see their own puzzled face. Priceless!

byron smith said...

You've also just passed 400 points.

Matthew Moffitt said...

It is very clever Byron.

Hurray for research!
