The idolatry of consumerism

This is of course the case with Christianity which is now essentially a consumerist religion which now has over thirty thousand denominations, sects and sub-sects.

All of which are completely self-serving, with NO exceptions.

Anonymous - Have you tried them all? How can you be so sure that your claim (which I admit has more than a few thousand grains of truth in it) is universal?

Joel - Indeed. Haven't seen that one, but it does sound somewhat similar, though the focus is slightly different. The SP episode is about celebrity culture and the Onion piece about consumerism, but since we "consume" celebrities these days (and certain consumerist icons are themselves celebs), perhaps there is not much difference.
