There is nothing new under the sun...

...not even Nothing New Under the Sun (or NNUTS), which is a year old today. During that time, I've shared 184 pictures, published 370 posts (my aim has been one per day), given away 1355 points, received over 3,000 comments, suffered somewhere between 35,800 and 62,000 hits (depending which counter you believe) and fought and conquered the dreaded pop-up beast.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on where to from here. What would you like more/less of? What have been highlights for you and why? Whom should I be more blatantly imitating/plagiarising? And what is just off camera in this picture?
Twelve points for the most creative suggestion of what I have just seen in the picture. Fifteen for the correct answer. Photo by JKS.

Keep doing what you do - you do it well.

Byron,

It's been a thoroughly enjoyable read. Keep the excellent pictures (which parallel the posts in their ability to provoke thought) coming as well as the biblically (and especially resurrection) charged posting.

God bless you in another year of blogging. =D

Happy Blog Birthday!

I've enjoyed the year. Highlight for me was the heaven series, but nearly everything I read stretches me to think even if I'm not sure I agree with what you've said.

I like the photos too - when I can't keep up with the theology at least I have something fun to look at!

I can't believe it has only been a year! You surpass my meagre blog in so many ways, it is just awesome to watch.

More eschatology please. More of your true fundamentalism.

Love your work.

As Joe the Gadget man used to say, "Keep on keeping on."

Two possibilities spring to mind:

1. You have just seen Father Christmas shooting across the horizon on his sleigh, no doubt with a sack full of useful gifts, such as a sewing machine for Mrs Beaver (a detail curiously omitted from the movie I noted).

2. You have just seen two in a field; one was taken and the other left behind...

Keep up the good work on the blogging. It has certainly been a great source of theological stimulation for me. And whatever you do, in word or image, do it in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Blessings for the next 12 months!

I'll give you a hint:
It walks on water and is usually the right answer in Sunday School. :-)

Your blog rocks. It takes skill to make such a virtual device so personal. But as Drew put it - "you do it well."

I think you've just seen a family of extraterrestials disguised as a poor Mexican family. but you can tell they are extraterrestials because their hands glow with a strange purple light, and you have a distinct sensation of the presense of the numinous =)

NNUTS is aweseme. don't change anything. =)

Happy birthday.

My only disappointment is that your blog's name can be made into the acronym NNUTS. But I guess you're not perfect and when you're not God you aren't going to think every aspect of blogging through eschatologically.

Thanks and keep challenging me to think.

Happy Blogirthday! :-)

I find that some months are busier than others, but even in the busy times I find it worthwhile to stop in here and hear your thoughts. Let's hope for many more years of thoughtful blogging ( and maybe a few more points that I might garner along the way ;-) )

What a great time to have a birthday! This is a really good blog, and I'm not sure you need any feedback.

Vaughn - you'd like to plagiarise more from Nessie? Fifteen points for the correct answer.

Chris and Drew - I'll give you six points each for nice answers.

Matheson - I'll pay nine points for each of your answers. Very nice.

But the twelve points go to our local prophet, Mr Matthew Moffit.

Thanks to everyone else for your encouragement and suggestions. They have been duly noted and will be duly ignored once I get another 'good' idea to chase.

Of course, the creative points also stay open to any future worthy suggestions...

Hi Byron,

Can I also share with everyone above how excellent your blog is - congratulations on one year!

Like MJ wrote above, It feels like a lot longer than a year with the sheer volume (and depth) of posts you have chalked up.

Keep telling us how marvellous the Lord is and how powerfully he impacts our living in every area of life as you have over the last year. You've helped me personally better think through current issues biblically -much appreciated and needed!

Have loved your environmental series, heaven, crude oil and especially how you have described your experience of serious illness with us. Your comments and biblical reflections throughout this time I have found deeply moving and profound.

As for who you are pointing to - John Howard briskly walking in his Wallabies tracksuit top...but where's the bottom?

byron smith said...

AP - I'll pay that another six points. :-)

I would like NNUTS to undertake a commentary on Romans 8 slowly and in detail making sure every post includes a 'what-does-this-mean-for-me?' section. I am particularly looking forward to your contemporisation of the final verses around 35 where cancer/terrorism will not separate me from the love of God. Thanks for obliging!
