Barneys update
When I began this blog, my church building at St Barnabas, Broadway had just burned down. I posted thoughts on this here, here, here and especially here. For those interested in the progress of this issue, here is the latest update on the Sydney Anglican website, including some comments from our rector, Ian Powell.

is there any talk of building an eco-friendly church - perhaps with solar panels on the roof, lots of natural light and a nice big rainwater tank? it would be great if churches could minimise thier environmental imapct in ways like this - and barneys seems to have a great opportunity to make a go of that. being so close to public transport too, going to church there could be a carbon neutral activity one day!
“The building should be attractive and wisely built environmentally speaking.”
That's all the article mentions - I know there are a few people trying to keep this issue on the agenda and it seems to have stuck in Ian's head, though I'm not sure whether there's been much discussion about it at parish council.
That's great news about re-building - very exciting.
We are currently undergoing a re-development of our church, and I am trying to push the eco-aspect.
I may be cynical, but I do not believe we will convince people by the eco arm until we start seeing £ being saved - but with rising energy prices that may not be too far away.
We do have some good things, and some down sides - Dundee is the sunniest city in scotland, but we are also in a listed building....
