Teaching both sides of Armageddon

Christian Groups: Biblical Armageddon Must Be Taught Alongside Global Warming

Giving children "both" sides of the debate has long been a slogan of young earth creationists in the US. However, this parody cuts even closer on another recent issue.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. One of the (many) problems here is captured in the false dichotomy posed by the 'Armagaeddon in the Classroom' spokeswoman: 'will we be destroyed because of our moral failures or because of our pollution?'. As if the two are unrelated!!

Sadly, so many Christians react by arguing that because we're near the end of the world... why worry?

"Hey, according to Tim LaHaye, we're in the last decade of human history anyway! So IF the world is warming, this just proves it! Cheer up, the Lord will fix it all soon."

(Reading between the lines: I don't have to do anything!)

Or the alternative is just plain denial. "God made this world, the world is His, he'll fix it all."

(Reading between the lines: I don't have to do anything!)

Yes, yes, yes - bad eschatology means bad ethics.
