Audrey Alice Momsen (26th August 1919 - 19th May 2009)

"But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who have fallen asleep, so that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have died."

-1 Thessalonians 4.13-14.

My grandmother fell asleep in Christ today. She was eighty-nine and leaves five children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I thank God for her life of loving service and for her trust in Jesus. I will miss her. But I grieve with hope because at Jesus' return God will bring with him those who have died, including her. May she rest until the day when death is no more. Come, Lord Jesus.

Sorry to hear of your loss. That's a great verse isn't it. I look forward to the chance of meeting your grandmother when God makes the world anew and we are freed to live without the shadow.

I have that felt the weight of the 'virtual' part of contemporary communication at times like this. In times of grief you want to be physically with family and friends. Hoping and praying that your new circle of friends can celebrate Audrey's life of faith with you, along with the sadness.

Sorry to hear of your loss Byron.

Technically it's still Easter so I am free to say Christ is Risen!

We'll keep you and your family in our prayers.

As she has fallen asleep in Christ, I'm not quite sure whether to feel for you in your sadness or to celebrate with you. Maybe both.

It s a great verse to be reminded of in times like this. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you to each of you for your kind words and prayers. The funeral was held yesterday in my grandmother's long-time parish church in Newcastle, and having talked to a few family members who were there, it sounds like it was a done well. And you can give thanks that my mother and sister were able to visit grandma just hours before she died and had a positive interaction with her where she affirmed her faith in Christ and her hope in God (even though she was only able to nod and smile). Her final words (with some difficulty) were "And I love you all too" in response to my mother passing on the love of our whole family to her.
