Who am I?

I'm a scribbling, cigar-smoking, wine-drinking, Bible-reading band man. A show off who loves to paint pictures of what I can't see. A husband, father, friend of the poor and sometimes the rich. An activist travelling salesman of ideas. Chess player, part-time rock star, opera singer, in the loudest folk group in the world.
Ten points for guessing who said this in an interview in response to being asked 'who are you?'. Whether you love him or hate him, check this out.
UPDATE: Seems like he's got something new to add to his self-description. H/T Elwyn.

Ten points to lachlan, and five to linden for getting in before I could give the game away. It was indeed Bono. If you either love or hate Bono, check this out.

Ahh, too slow. I love that quote - and the book is well worth reading!

Do I get points for the book? Or who he said it too? :)

Also, I found this recently - could be good yes?

Drew - maybe, if you're quick and can link to a non-Amazon publisher! :-)

I'm always up for giving extra points for more information.

Oh - and good try Meredith. I like it when people feel happy to have a guess even when they don't know. That description would come close to Nick Cave in a number of ways, though I'm not sure he ever married.

well, my first thought was bono but lachlan beat me to it so i thought i'd guess again. i had missed the marriage bit in the quote... oh well :-)

Drew - looks like an interesting book. Have you read it?

Not to be a pedant Meredith but good ol Nick is married. He is so good at it he has been married three times. But I hear that this one is for keeps.
Unless of course you have heard something I haven't

Meredith - better luck next time. Some points require speed on the draw... Of course, there's still plenty of points available.

Here's the first book.

I haven't read the U2 and Philosophy book (yet!), Greg put me on to it just the other day.

I know it was only out of pity, but I believe I am owedtwo points.

Drew - five points.

And Christopher - many apologies! - I'll give you a third for my tardiness. Interest, or something.

Christopher - Has Nick Cave actually been married, or just had a series of de facto relationships? Oh no, has Wikipedia let me down again... :-(

According to his biography he was married to the woman of his first child; then to a South American model and the mother of Luke his second child; And he is now married to his third wife who he has had twins with. The biography is at home which is at home so can't name name's. I may be wrong about the first two, I am going by memory but he is definately married now. Here is a nice quote

"Getting married, for me, was the best thing I ever did. I was suddenly beset with an immense sense of release, that we have something more important than our separate selves, and that is the marriage. There's immense happiness that can come from working towards that."
Nick Cave

Speaking of Bono check out my story about the "U2charists" being celebrated at some churches

So at some point will we be able to trade in our points for valuable merchandise, like say copies of the books you publish?
:-)

Ok I think I will have to recant on Nick Cave having three marriages. I can only find evidence for one at this stage.

Aaron - yes, I was going to link to that story (with a hat tip to you) when I post some more links on the weekend.

Christopher - one is enough to make the point. As our resident Nick Cave expert, are there other parts of the quote that don't apply to him?

Frank - perhaps you could trade your points in for the right to publish my books? ;-)
And in the meantime, I recommend that everybody visit those who have lots of points. Publicity and fame is your reward. I've always intended to add the scoreboard to my sidebar, but have never got around to it. Maybe once exams are over...

Well it does sound a bit like him, except he would probably say it all in a different way.

He doesn't scribble anymore he uses an iMac, he smokes cigarettes, was a non-alcoholic so not sure about the wine (he may be back on the wagon, or is it off the wagon?), loves painting (started out as an art-student), not known for his activism or friendship of the poor, although he did play at Wave-Aid, by no means an opera singer, some don't consider him a singer fullstop, and I think he still considers himself a punk-rocker opposed to a folk artist.
