Blog upgrade

I've tried the switch to the new Blogger and have had a few hitches. It seems that the identity of quite a number of recent comments have been rendered 'anonymous'. Apologies to those who are now nameless in their remarks. I'm not sure there's anything I can do about this. As a slight compensation, I have now labelled all my old posts and so finding things might be a little easier. I'm still working on the layout, so expect things to keep changing round a little on the sidebar for a while until I sort this out. Here are some labels that you might find more interesting.

Age to come; Augustine; Barneys; Barth; Cancer; Creation; Death; End of the world; Faith; Fear; Films; God; Grace; Groaning; Heaven; Humanity; Humour; Jesus; Life; Love; Moltmann; Not yet; O'Donovan; Pacifism; Personal; Points; Problem of evil; Questions; Resurrection; Transience.

Glad to see that I'm one of your labels!

so, is it worth it?

Aaron - of course. I've linked a few times to you.

Michael - not sure. I guess others will have to decide whether labels are useful. That seems to be the main benefit. I guess it might be slightly quicker overall (although there has been some hanging, making it slower at points while editing layout). The costs have been a little higher than I expected. It's added a few extra hours of labelling and re-modelling the layout (which will probably continue for a little while as I gradually re-adjust). Losing the identity of many comments is a real pain that I hadn't heard about before I did it. So, I'm not yet convinced is the summary. What do others think?

I'll watch how you make out with it for a bit before switching. I am leery of always updating things in computerdom. That is one of the reasons I dislike computers. I've often thought labels would be helpful though. If you run into any really bad hiccups please let us know. I bet at some point we will all be forced onto the new blogger (just before the new new blogger hits the web). Argggghhh.

For what it's worth, Blogger did that to me when I upgraded too. It seems to be a glitch.

I wonder how the glitch happened - it seems strange that the new blogger should make me anonymous, when I've been on the new blogger the whole time. I can't say whether the new one is better than the old one, but it does work well and I think the only problems with switching would be the process of switching.

Frank - I bet you're right about being forced one day (this was part of why I switched - I figured that one day some crucial piece of support might be withdrawn).

The identity glitch is a pain. I have emails which record who said what, so I can always go back and check if I need to, but it does make some comment threads very difficult to follow and quite puzzling for a first time reader or someone new to blogging. I can't work out any pattern regarding whose identities have been lost. It just seems random. I haven't looked at too many threads, but it seems to have affected more recent threads more than older ones. I notice it also removed photos, even where it kept the name.

Fortunately, I switched to beta blogger just after a month of using the old blogger, so I never experienced those glitches. However, I noticed that I became anonymous when I posted my comments, so I used the "other" option in choosing an identity and posted again. And it worked.
