A picture is worth a thousand posts

I'd love to hear some feedback on the pictures on this blog. Are they worth it? Do they slow down your connection too much (esp if you're still in the dark ages of dial-up)? Which is your favourite? What would you like to see more/less of?
I think the easiest way to find all the photos is to follow the archive links to each of the months I've been blogging (or try here: May; June; July; August; September; October). If you want to comment on a photo, please link to it, or at least include the title of the post. If you've never commented before, here's an easy chance to dip your toe in the water!

books... so pretty... must get more books...

I like the pics.
I have unwired at home, and it does tend to be a little slow sometimes (esp YouTube)- but hey, that's life.

If I had to pick some favs, I'd prob go with this or this, and this one is my fav.

Byron,

I have a good connection, so I can't speak for those who don't, but I think pictures most always enhance each entry.

I like the pics Byron. Tell me you didn't organize your books my colour? And I thought I was bad! Because I am such a bibliophile this post has my new favourite picture. ;-)

Definitely keep up the pics! It's one of the more interesting ongoing devices I've seen on any blog.

Personally, as a traveler myself, I love all the pictures of cities around the world.

Definitely keep the pics. Now that I've got a nice little digital jewel I should be posting some myself.

Sorry to double post, but how exactly do you get your pics in different positions in your post. Maybe I haven't been creative and experimental enough on wordpress, but usually my pics are just on the top or bottom. Is than an html thing, or a blogspot thing?

Thanks for all the positive feedback. I guess this could have been read as a little bit of a 'massage me' post. I didn't intend it to be.

Frank: Yes, the books are (I think) the only photo inside our house so far (here and here are balcony shots, and this and this are from our roof (looking in opposite directions). As for the books, they were ones we weren't using often and these shelves are very high, so we turned them into a decorative piece for a few months. It then got a little annoying when we actually wanted to find one (surprise, surprise!). But it was a nice effect while it lasted.

Rob: I'm an html novice, but Blogger gives you various options with locating pictures (and their size). Here is the script for this latest picture (with [] instead of <> so that blogger doesn't get confused with this comment and re-post the picture):

[a href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/3407/2982/1600/IMG_4021.jpg"][img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/3407/2982/320/IMG_4021.jpg" border="0" alt="" /][/a]

I assume location has to do with the "float:left" bit.

Oops - the ends of some lines have been cut off - just copy and paste to see the whole thing.

Rob, you can use a fair bit of HTML in your posts, within the IMG tag there are a number of positioning options. Just look at the name of the tag (that first bit after the less than sign) and search the web for that tag's usage.

Byron, every now and then I get the urge to rearrange my books. Now that I'm bursting out of three big bookshelves (just my theology library) it usually takes me a day to implement a new schema. Right now it is all alphabetical by author/editor with the exception of my biblical stuff which is still arranged in a topical fashion. I'll have to post some photos one day just for fun.

Nice pictures. Some thoughts:
1. I think centred pictures with text underneath looks better than pictures justified to the right or left.
2. I'd like it if you posted the title/location of the photo right underneath (like Meredith).
3. At home I'm on dial-up.

Aaron: thanks for the feedback.
1. I generally use right/left if the picture is portrait rather than landscape.
2. So you're not a fan of the guessing competitions? (though I do love Meredith's pictures)
3. Do all the pics make it annoyingly slow for you at home?

Frank: looking forward to some home/book pics. :-)

Speaking of Meredith's pictures, make sure you check out these pics of NZ. Wow!

Byron - I love your pictures - they give a great atmosphere to your posts...I use them as desktop backgrounds!!

Cheers, happy birthday for today and hope you get your voice back soon.

Andrew: Thanks, thanks and thanks. My voice is feeling a little better this morning (no singing yet...) and yesterday I had a lovely evening. Jess arranged a little surprise gathering after dinner!

hey byron...
not sure if i've commented before i not... i regularly read.

pictures are great.

could sometimes maybe be smaller.

also as a dial-up user - you could myabe compress the pictures a bit more.

http://www.irfanview.com/
has a brilliant free program where you can quickly compress photos to be used on the web.

peaceout

Thanks for the link David (though being a mac-user, such programs are both incompatible and unnecessary...). Not meaning to be harsh, but now that I've looked into it, the little thumb-nails on my blog are generally only 15-35K in size, so I don't think I'll aim for any more compression.
