O come, O come, Emmanuel

O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice!
Emmanuel shall come to thee, O Israel.
Ten points for the Sydney location.

Yesterday, the verse 4 lyrics up on Power Point said "free thine own from SANTA'S tyranny."

Getting homesick in Edinburgh, huh? ;-)

I like this carol.

When will there be points for this picture? I've actually been to this place.

Aaron - that is brilliant! Did people sing it?

Anthony - not really, though the sun in this picture is becoming a distant memory.

Moffitt - Seems like Anthony might know it as well, since he knew it was in Sydney. There may be points for it one day. Advent is, after all, a time of waiting...

Anything that isn't covered in snow is going to be in Sydney, right?

Actually, it is pretty funny, because it is just up the road from this which I used on this post.

Since i have wandered around Matt's place, I also know where this photo is.

Not sure if anyone else sang it, but I did!

No, I don't know where it is (though thanks for the hints, I'll be stalking Matt later). I was going off the lyrics ... "mourns in lonely exile here" ...

From where Byron is standing, the location is Earlwood, on the Cooks River bike track, looking across the foot/bike bridge that crosses the Cooks River and connects Earlwood with Hurlstone Park.

I also live close by, but not in the photo.

could you be a little more specific matt, that seems to be a generalised guess

Sorry. At the far end of the bridge are some tennis courts, frequented by Trinity Grammar School. To the left is the Sydney Olympik Club and Ewen Park. To the right is Marrickville golf course. Behind the photo is an Islamic centre and another park that runs all the way to Undercliff.

That's better. I'll give you your ten points now.

I'm discovering that I'd forgotten how hot that sun can get. I'd also forgotten Byron's delayed points habit, until I came to see what the comments were...

Matt, I don't think you're really a local while you're still saying "another park" for Beaman Park.

Matthew Moffitt said...

Yes, although I could have been referring to the Willis Ground, home of Canterbury RFC...

Jonathan said...

Yes, if it were the one that ran all the way to Undercliff...

A ha! You've got me there.
